Instalment two

Henfield

Low key few days, the weather since Sunday has been a bit gloomy with occasional showers but predicted to improve here on in.

We've caught up with Charlie Ann who is now training and working as a beautician in the village....with Jackie and John who called in for an intensive chatty catchup...and with Sandra and Penny

Yesterday we went into Brighton for a few hours.....god it's a grubby run down place....a hundred years ago it must have been a grand and beautiful place. The Brighton Eye is being constructed just opposite the old ...and devastatingly burnt out old pier....but there isn't much to see at this point. We visited the Art Republic gallery and were quite taken with a painting but not sure that will turn into a purchasing action.

John and Freida have been in touch suggesting that they might join us tomorrow for the weekend in Devon but time will tell if they actually make it. It's a five hour drive down there including a lunch stop...travelling at "mooching" speed.

Jackie and John arrived determined to "give us an airing" and off we went to Basham to wander through a delightful village in a tributary of the Chichester Harbour....absolutely delightful place, some great houses, lots of thatched cottages, hundreds if not thousands of boats of all sizes and descriptions, when the tide is in the road around the foreshore is completely inundated cutting of vehicular access to some of the houses. Floods are clearly a common occurrence and front doors of the cottages have built up sills to about a metre that you have to step over and in many the front door that faces the street is about a metre off the ground! I'll put some pictures in at some stage. JandJ always find interesting places or us to discover.

Late in the evening word from John and Frieda that they have changed their plans and now won't be joining our convoy to Devon.
