FIFTH INSTALMENT.....VILLAGE ACTIVITY

The past couple of weeks are characterised by relatively low key local activity. The first couple of days back from Cornwall were definitely R and R!

Anthony arrived last Sunday from Sydney via Hong Kong and disappointingly for him the dancing troupe, Morris dancers and village cheerleaders were not able to make it to the arrivals hall at Heathrow.

To paraphrase Noel Coward...."We've been to a marvelous party".......

This weekend just past was the grand knees-up in celebration of Steve and Tracey's 25th wedding anniversary. A big do...sit down meal for 60 odd at the Queen's Hotel on the front at Brighton....with dancing afterwards with an additional 60 guests......til "carriages at 1 am".

A terrific party, great food, catching up with old friends and plenty of conviviality. Emily's mum and dad were at the party bit and we had more stories to share about the impending trip of their daughter to the other side of the globe. The entrainment (well the formal bit) was a mix of a DJ and an Elvis impersonator...he was so good and the crowd much more inclined to hit the dance floor in response to a live entertainer than the simple sound tracks. Great fun with a good sprinkling of the seniors demonstrating jiving skills to the young on their six inch platform heels....which in most cases were swapped for ballet flats not too long into the dancing phase!

The very patient taxi driver (Mark seems to be used to Prescott chaos) eventually loaded up two eight seaters with revellers going back to the village to kick on ....some of us stayed in the hotel fighting a losing battle for sleep against the raucous revellers outside.....it seemed that 6am was going home time....so managed a couple of hours "nod".

Back to the village to prepare my contribution to this afternoon's barbecue at Cheryl's in Small Dole. A great afternoon...although everyone is a little more subdued today after the previous night. Fabulous sunny warm day and lots of the girls lapping up the chance to make a smart on their sun tans.

Lots of old friends as well as catching up with some new ones. Great to spend time with Mary and John and catch up where we left off in Sommerset. It would be great if there was ever any chance that John would allow himself a break from his work and have even a short visit to Australia which I know he would enjoy. We will certainly be staying in touch with these two....super people.

Back home about nine, after dropping off Steven and Anthony and then Sandra and did my best to stay up for a while but eventually had to give in to the drooping eyelids!

Lovely weekend!

Jacky and John are taking us on a mystery outing this afternoon and Stephen and Kazumi arrive tomorrow afternoon. Not sure what plans we will make for the rest of the week...watch this space....next weekend we will have four days down in Devon and the week after its off to Lincoln, Derby and Yorkshire.
